Delaware Nurse Practitioner CE Requirements

Delaware Board of Nursing (Division of Professional Regulation); controlled substances via the Delaware Office of Controlled Substances / Controlled Substance Advisory Committee

Last reviewed July 2026 · verify current rules with the board before relying on them

Renewal cycle

2 years (biennial); APRN license expires with the Delaware RN license (odd-numbered years; if no DE RN license, APRN expires Sept 30 of odd years)

Total CE hours

30 contact hours per 2-year renewal (the APRN renews the underlying RN license, which requires 30 hours — confirmed on official DPR renewal and CE pages). APRN renewal additionally requires attesting to practice hours (1,500 hrs in past 5 years, or 600 hrs in past 2 years, or graduation from the specialty program within 2 years) and maintaining national certification per 24 Del. Admin. Code 1900-8.12.

Pharmacology CE

10 hours of CE in pharmacology/pharmacotherapeutics in the past 2 years, attested at renewal, required to renew PRESCRIPTIVE AUTHORITY (which all licensed DE APRNs are granted with licensure). Consistently reported by multiple independent sources (NursingLicensure.org, nursece4less, NetCE, Wild Iris) as the Board's requirement, but I could not load the official regulation text (regulations.delaware.gov pages are JS-rendered and returned empty) — hence medium confidence on this field.

Controlled-substance CE

Delaware Controlled Substance Registration (CSR) renewal requires 2 hours of CE in controlled substance prescribing practices / treatment of chronic pain / related topics per renewal period — confirmed on the official DPR Controlled Substances CE page. Official Board FAQ confirms overlap: the RN renewal's mandatory 3 substance-abuse hours can also satisfy the CSR requirement. Initial CSR requires a 1-hour mandatory course on Delaware controlled-substance law. Note: official DPR CE page states at least 3 of the 30 RN hours must be in substance abuse, plus at least 1 hour on recognition/response to abuse, exploitation, trafficking, or domestic violence of vulnerable persons. Federal DEA MATE 8-hour one-time training also applies.

Good to know

The 30-hour, 3-hour substance abuse, and 2-hour CSR figures are from official .gov pages (high confidence). The 10-hour pharmacology attestation for prescriptive-authority renewal is corroborated by 4+ independent vendor sources but the official admin-code text (24 DE Admin Code 1902) could not be fetched — verify against DELPROS/board before publishing. Delaware joined the APRN Compact framework; reg 1902 is the newer APRN regulation superseding parts of 1900-8.0. CE tracked in DELPROS; audit-based.

Cover your Delaware requirements with 115 contact hours of practical psychopharmacology — including 75+ pharmacology contact hours. 1 CME = 1 contact hour, fully AANP-approved.
