Build your Wyoming renewal checklist →Renewal cycle
2 years- APRN licenses renew every 2 years, in even-numbered years.
- The renewal window runs October 1 through December 31 (e.g., October–December 2026).
Total CE hours
None- No fixed general CE-hour count for nationally certified APRNs — renewal is based on maintaining current national certification in your role and population focus (your certifying body's CE/recertification requirements apply).
- Legacy APRNs recognized before January 1, 1999 without national certification must instead show 60 CE hours plus 400 practice hours per 2 years.
Pharmacology CE
None- No 15-hour pharmacotherapeutics CE requirement exists in current Wyoming State Board of Nursing rules — the 15-hour figure cited by some vendors reflects superseded rules.
- Current Chapter 2 (continuing competency, Section 13) requires only:
- Current national certification in role/population focus (or, for pre-1999 non-certified legacy APRNs, 60 CE hours + 400 practice hours per 2 years)
- For APRNs with prescriptive authority: 3 hours of CE on responsible prescribing of controlled substances or treatment of substance use disorders
- Prescriptive-authority applicants must show completion of advanced pharmacology coursework, but there is no recurring 15-hour pharmacotherapeutics renewal requirement.
Controlled-substance CE
3 hours- 3 hours of CE per renewal cycle on responsible prescribing of controlled substances or treatment of substance use disorders, required of APRNs holding prescriptive authority.
- The federal one-time 8-hour DEA MATE Act training applies if you hold a DEA registration.
Good to know
- Wyoming has joined the APRN Compact framework.
- CE certificates must be uploaded via the nurse portal at renewal.

This guide is informational and not legal or licensing advice. National certification (e.g. ANCC PMHNP-BC: 75 CE hours per 5 years including 25 pharmacotherapeutics hours) and the one-time 8-hour DEA MATE Act training may apply in addition to state requirements.

The PMHNP CE Program, by Psychopharmacology Institute, is continuing education built around psychopharmacology: 115 CME contact hours, including 75+ pharmacology hours — the category state boards and certifying bodies actually require of prescribers. Every publication is available as video, audio in your podcast app, and text summaries with key points.
Content is taught by academic faculty, focused on real-world prescribing, and free of commercial bias. 1 CME = 1 contact hour, fully AANP-approved.
