Nevada Nurse Practitioner CE Requirements

• Licenses renew on a 2-year (biennial) cycle.

• 45 hours of CE directly related to the APRN's role and population focus per renewal period.
• These may include the 30 hours required for RN license renewal — 45 total, not 45 + 30.

• No pharmacology-specific hour requirement for APRNs generally — the 45 hours must relate to your role and population focus.
• Exception: CRNAs need an additional 15 hours in pharmacology — not applicable to PMHNPs.

• APRNs with prescribing or dispensing privileges: a 2-hour CE course on the use and misuse of controlled substances each renewal period (AB474 framework).
• Other Nevada mandates:
  • 2 hours on SBIRT/substance use disorder each renewal (renewals on or after Jan 1, 2024)
  • 2 hours of evidence-based suicide prevention every 4 years
  • 4 hours of cultural competency each renewal (since 2024)
  • One-time 4-hour bioterrorism course
• DEA registrants: one-time 8-hour federal DEA MATE Act training.

• APRNs must maintain a professional portfolio with CE proof for the preceding 4 years, subject to audit.
• PMP (prescription monitoring program) enrollment is required if prescribing Schedule II–IV.
• The cultural competency requirement rose from 2 to 4 hours per renewal effective 2024.
• For a PMHNP there is no discrete pharmacology hour count — but all 45 hours must relate to the psychiatric-mental-health role and population.
