Nevada Nurse Practitioner CE Requirements

Nevada State Board of Nursing

Last reviewed July 2026 · verify current rules with the board before relying on them

Renewal cycle

2 years (biennial)

Total CE hours

45 hours of CE directly related to the APRN's role and population focus per renewal period; this may include the 30 hours required for RN license renewal (i.e., 45 total, not 45 + 30).

Pharmacology CE

No pharmacology-specific hour requirement for APRNs generally (confirmed in the Board's official APRN FAQ, which lists no pharm carve-out); the 45 hours must relate to role/population focus. Exception per vendor summaries: CRNAs need an additional 15 hours in pharmacology — not applicable to PMHNPs.

Controlled-substance CE

APRNs with prescribing OR dispensing privileges must complete a 2-hour CE course on the use and misuse of controlled substances each renewal period (AB474 framework). Also: 2 hours on SBIRT/substance use disorder each renewal (renewals on/after Jan 1, 2024), 2 hours evidence-based suicide prevention every 4 years, 4 hours cultural competency each renewal (since 2024), one-time 4-hour bioterrorism course, and the federal one-time 8-hour DEA MATE training for DEA registrants.

Good to know

Core numbers (45 hours role/population-focused, inclusive of the RN 30; 2-hour controlled-substance course for prescribers/dispensers each renewal; suicide prevention 2 hrs/4 yrs) read directly from the Board's official APRN Licensure FAQ PDF. APRNs must maintain a professional portfolio (CE proof for the preceding 4 years) subject to audit, plus PMP enrollment if prescribing Schedule II–IV. Cultural competency hours rose from 2 to 4 per renewal effective 2024 per the Board's CE page. For a PMHNP there is no discrete pharmacology hour count — but all 45 hours must relate to the psychiatric-mental-health role/population.

Cover your Nevada requirements with 115 contact hours of practical psychopharmacology — including 75+ pharmacology contact hours. 1 CME = 1 contact hour, fully AANP-approved.
