New York Nurse Practitioner CE Requirements

• Registration renews every 3 years (triennial) with NYSED; the NP certificate and RN license are both renewed.

• New York has no general CE/contact-hour requirement for NP (or RN) registration renewal.
• NPs must maintain their national certification only per their certifying body's rules (ANCC/AANP recertification CE), not as a state-audited renewal requirement.

• No pharmacology-specific CE requirement for NP registration renewal.
• Pharmacology coursework applies only to initial certification/education.

• NPs with a DEA registration must complete at least 3 hours of coursework in pain management, palliative care, and addiction once every 3 years (NY Public Health Law mandatory prescriber education).

• The federal one-time 8-hour MATE Act training also applies at DEA registration/renewal.

• New York splits credentials: RN license + NP certificate, both registered triennially with NYSED.
